How Does AI Scraper Prevention Work?

AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google Gemini can scrape your recipe content and serve it directly in their interfaces, without users ever visiting your site. This means someone can search for your recipe and get the full ingredients and instructions without ever clicking through to your blog, costing you traffic and ad revenue.

The AI Scraper Prevention toggle in Tasty Recipes helps protect your content from this by blocking known AI training crawlers from accessing your recipes. It is a free feature available in both Tasty Recipes Lite and Pro.

Will This Hurt My SEO?

No. AI Scraper Prevention is specifically designed to block AI training crawlers while leaving standard search engine indexing completely untouched. Google, Bing, and other search engines will continue to crawl and index your recipes normally. Your search rankings will not be affected.

How to Enable It

Log into your WordPress dashboard and navigate to WP Tasty → Tasty Recipes (or Tasty Recipes Lite). Go to the Settings tab and flip the AI Scraper Prevention toggle on. It is turned off by default.

What It Does

When enabled, AI Scraper Prevention works in two ways:

  • It adds known AI training bot user-agents (like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and others) to your site’s robots.txt file, blocking them at the crawl level.
  • It injects noai and noimageai meta tags on any page that contains a Tasty Recipes recipe block, signaling your intent at the page level.

Using both methods together maximizes coverage across AI companies that respect either standard.

What It Does Not Cover

There are a few limitations worth knowing about:

  • Non-compliant scrapers. This feature only blocks crawlers that respect robots.txt. Scrapers that ignore these signals entirely will not be affected.
  • Google AI Overviews. Google AI Overviews uses standard Googlebot rather than a separate AI training crawler. Blocking AI training crawlers will not prevent your recipes from appearing in AI Overviews, and your standard Google search rankings will not be affected.
  • Conflicts with SEO plugins. If you use a plugin like Yoast SEO or Rank Math to manage your robots.txt file, Tasty Recipes will append its directives rather than overwrite yours. It is still worth checking your robots.txt after enabling to make sure everything looks correct.
