Do you find yourself sifting through dozens of Pinterest boards wondering if it’s even worth posting to all of them? We feel your pain! Luckily, there’s a good way to find your highest performing Pinterest boards so you can focus your time on what’s working and avoid spending time on what’s not.
In this post we’ll talk about:
How to Find Your Highest Performing Pinterest Boards
Find high performing boards on Pinterest
From Pinterest, you’ll want to access your Pinterest analytics.
- Go to the Analytics page and Overview, located in the menu at the top left of your Pinterest page.
- From the Analytics page, scroll down to the section labeled Top Boards. This section can be sorted by impressions, engagements, pin clicks, outbound clicks, and saves.
We recommend sorting by saves, as this gives you a better idea of how many pins people are actually repinning from your boards.
As you can see, these boards below have a high number of saves, which means these are great boards to continue pinning to.
While these boards, on the other hand, have a very low number of saves. ?
Find high performing boards on Tailwind
If you have a Tailwind account, you can easily pull these same stats.
- Go the left-hand menu and click Insights.
- From the top menu click on Boards Insights. Then click Total under the column titled Repins to sort the highest total repins to the top.
On Tailwind, the number of repins is just a small piece of the puzzle. Tailwind also calculates a virality score and engagement score, which are worth taking into account as well.
When it comes to the virality score, a higher score indicates that your content is performing well on Pinterest. Boards with a higher virality score are obviously worth pinning too.
The engagement score shows how much interaction your pins are receiving from each follower. We recommend referencing both of these scores to determine how well your boards are performing.
You can read more about the difference between these scores, and how they are calculated, here.
If you don’t feel particularly attached to any of your lower performing boards, it is perfectly ok to secret or archive them as they are not driving traffic. Notice that we said secret or archive, NOT delete. As tempting as it may be, don’t delete boards. You will lose followers if you do! ‼️
We repeat, don’t delete boards!
How to Create Pinterest Boards That Perform Well
We all want our boards to perform well and there are a few things to keep in mind when creating high-performing boards for Pinterest.
Create boards that make sense for you and your brand
First, Pinterest boards perform well because they contain content that your specific audience wants to see.
It’s obviously important to pin other bloggers’ content, but at the end of the day, your audience wants to see your recipes and blog content. This is why creating the right boards is important for having a successful Pinterest strategy.
Instead of following the popular misconception that you need to create certain boards, even if those topics aren’t in your niche, create boards that make sense for you and your brand.
For example, if you are a baking blogger with a dessert-centered blog, create boards like “chocolate dessert recipes” and “cupcake recipes” instead of “home remodeling” and “gardening.” Chances are, the first two boards are going to perform much better!
Research keywords ?
Second, when it comes to naming your boards and adding descriptions search a term on Pinterest and see what comes up. Use those keywords in your board titles and descriptions. The better you optimize your boards, the more likely your content will be found by users.

Get specific ?
And lastly, don’t be afraid to get specific! If you have a board that’s performing well i.e. “Holiday Recipes”, try breaking it up into more specific boards i.e. “Christmas Recipes”, “Halloween Recipes”, etc. This provides you with the option to pin to more boards, which in turn leads to more views of your pins.
